Straight Skate Skateboard Shop is a family owned and operated business that was founded by Kim, John and JP Slusarz.

We opened our doors for our Everhart shop on Wednesday, May 18, 2005.

JP has been skateboarding virtually all his life and has worked in skateboard shops and other skateboarding business in Dallas, Philadelphia, Boston and San Diego before starting this shop. He primarily is involved in the day-to-day business of the shop and has an equal voice in all significant decisions/policies.

Steven started with Straight Skate before we opened our doors and was vital in setting up the shop. He has been an avid skateboarder since early childhood and is our “Old School” expert. He has worked for a major skateboard retailer and in skateboard shops on the west coast and Dallas.

Kim is the brains of the outfit and works primarily in the “back room”. Her previous experience in Sales and Marketing establishes the look and feel of the shop. She is also responsible for purchasing and finances

John, another “back room” guy, is the handyman and computer geek. He does all carpentry work, remodeling and fix-it; he also keeps our blog site and MySpace up to date.

OUR NAME - When we were starting our shop all the other major places that sold skateboards had "surf" in their names (ie. Joes Surf and Skate) and they also sold surfboards, bikini's, wet suits and other beach stuff. As we were featuring only skateboard merchandise and we wanted to let our customers know we sold ONLY skateboarding stuff - we became Straight Skate (NO SURF).

OUR LOGO - We thank Richard at Extreme Graphics of Corpus Christi for turning the name Straight Skate into our primary title logo, we think it is great and it just seems so right for us!

All skaters abbreviate "skate" as SK8 and when we did the same to "Straight" we got STR8. So the logo was naturally STR8SK8 and then we just enlarged the S and the 8 with "tr" and "k" in the center. Again Richard came up with the jagged look - and it fits us very well.
